The cities of Andalucia

Nerja town

Nerja has many different beaches ranging from tiny sheltered coves sometimes cut off at high tide, to vast expanses of safe clean sand - like the 'Burriana' with it's beach bars, sunbeds, pedaloes and a variety of watersports.

All the beaches slope gently into the sea and have blue flag awards, you can swim almost all year round in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, as water temperature vary only between 18º in the winter to 24º in the summer.

Nerja town boast no less than 7 beaches some of which can be seen from the lovely coastal path walkway which starts from the fisherman's beach 'Calhonda' on the east side of the Balcón de Europa in the centre of town, and meanders its way through palm trees and cliffs to the famous 'Burriana' the last beach of Nerja - giving you a chance to sample all the coves and inlets along it's route.  West of the Balcón are the 'Salon' and 'Torricilla' beaches, each have their own individual charm and are separated by rocky outcrops, ideal for those who love to snorkel or scuba dive.

Maro

A tiny village with an equally tiny beach, at the end of a quiet country lane through farm land, this beach is ideal for those who want peace and quiet, yet still have the convenience of a bar and sunbeds.

La Herradura

A huge crescent shaped beach to the west of Nerja, with bars, restaurants and shops.  Take the old road to Cerro Gordo for some spectacular views from the headland towards Nerja and La Herradura.

Calahonda Beach, Nerja

Torrox Costa

East of Nerja lies the modern tourist area of Torrox Costa with its many bars, restaurants, shops, a spacious pedestrianised promenade, and several kilometres   of safe sandy beach which stretches all the way to Tore Del Mar.

There are many other beaches all along this area of the Costa Del Sol - too numerous to mention, but all of them well worth a visit, many down dirt roads or mountain tracks and usually wit no facilities, but all will give you the peace and tranquillity that you long for from a day  on the beach.  Take along a picnic of a bar-b-que, let the kids run off all their energy. and then you can enjoy a relaxing day o an uncrowded stretch of beach. - but be warned don't forget the sun shade and the sun cream as the effects of the sun, wind and sea are very strong and can burn without you even noticing the heat.
